What does it mean to have “the mind of Christ”?

How is that even possible?

Start with Scripture

1 Corinthians 2:16 ““For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ”. The word “mind” in this verse is the same word that is found in Isaiah 40:13- 14which is describing the God of the Old Testament. His name is Yahweh or Jehovah and means the Self-Existent One who has the divine ability to know, perceive, judge, feel, and to discern all things.

Read 1 Corinthians 2:12-16. What is the difference between the natural person and the spiritual person? Is it possible for the natural person to have the “mind of Christ”? Explain.

Read 1 Corinthians 1:22-30. To whom is Christ a stumbling block? To whom does He display the wisdom and power of God?

Read James 3:13-18 compares wisdom from the world and wisdom from above. What are the two roots that lead to disorder and evil practice? Contrast the characteristics and consequences of worldly wisdom and godly wisdom.

Personal Reflections

One who has the “mind of Christ” is spiritually discerning and called according to God’s purpose.

Therefore, how would this influence one’s perspective and discernment in relationships, career, and personal identity and in times of trials and testing of our faith? 1 Corinthians 2:14-16

We saw in James 3:13-18 a stark contrast in attitude and behavior. In what area of your life do you struggle most in responding with worldly wisdom vs. godly wisdom?

Do you believe Christ is in you and that He is the hope of glory and the wisdom of God? Read Colossians 1:27-29. Describe how Christ is our hope. What are you lacking in order to mature in Christ?

The Gospel Approach

As a believer, Jew or Gentile, you are one in the body of Christ, the church, but only one of many members. We NEED each other for encouragement and accountability to mature in Christ. What do you personally need from other believers to mature spiritually and how can you encourage others?

The Scriptures listed above have shown that to have the “mind of Christ” is to have the power and wisdom from God through His Son, Jesus. The Spirit enables us to perceive and to understand spiritual things of God that apart from Christ we could not.

To increase in our knowledge and wisdom of God is how we mature in Christ. Therefore, what correlation does spiritual maturity have with the ability to choose godly wisdom rather than wisdom from the world? How is this displayed through our speech and conduct? James 3:13-18

What measures do you need to implement to ensure that you will respond in godly wisdom in order to reflect the “mind of Christ”?
